Federal Update
September 16, 2022
The IU Federal Relations team was excited to join the University of Notre Dame and The Science Coalition this month to present Sen. Todd Young with the Champions of Science Award for his leadership on the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, signed into law in August.
Young first introduced the legislation in 2020 as the Endless Frontier Act and led efforts on Capitol Hill to secure strong bipartisan support for the CHIPS and Science Act.
Highlights of the CHIPS and Science Act include:
- Authorizes $10 billion for regional technology and innovation hubs to promote innovation in various geographic regions in the U.S.
- Authorizes the NSF Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships (TIP) to advance translational research.
- Authorizes the AI Scholarships for Service program to recruit and train the AI workforce.
The Federal Relations team will continue to advocate for robust funding for the programs authorized in the CHIPS and Science Act. We thank Sen. Young for his leadership and look forward to pursuing opportunities that arise from the legislation.
