Biography

Ann Byars received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communications from Grand Valley State University in west Michigan. She was a college instructor for 28 years in communications arts (public speaking, interpersonal, small group, business, theories, media, conflict management); full time for Ferris State University and part time for Grand Valley State.

Upon moving to Indiana in 2021, Ann served as the Civics and Education Manager for the national headquarters of the American Legion in Indianapolis. Yearly, She was responsible for over $2 million in scholarship administration, civics media, and 1,200 American flag etiquette questions. Ann currently serves as an Educational Resources Specialists, Civics, Center on Representative Government, Indiana University. She is a DoD grant-sponsored team member of Democracy Quest, a virtual reality civics and historical experience.
